maramao perchè sei morto
FRANKENSTEIN MAG

A tribute to Maramao perchè sei morto, an Italian popular song about the loss of a cat.

Maramao, why are you dead?
You had salad in the garden,
And a home, and wine and bread!

The song was an Italian hit during the 30s, but its refrain is very ancient, dating back to the 1200s. Despite his apparently shallow tones, the subtext is actually very ironic, and the song has been linked several times to anti-clerical, anti-fascist and no-war protests during Italian history.

The tragic epilogue of Maramao is part of Frankenstein Mag 01.
